The educational requirement for the emergency medical technician paramedic are rigorous. The training not only involves classroom training, but hospital clinical rotations as well. In the emergency department where I used to work, we would frequently have EMT’s or paramedics join us while they were fulfilling their educational requirements. They need to make correct and fast decisions because they frequently encounter acute medical situations. The are often faced with extensive trauma, especially when they are called upon as first responders in motor vehicle accidents. The technicians and paramedics that I have gotten to know where I work are very capable in emergency situations.
