The Greek culture is one of the ancient cultures that have survived the test of time; ancient Greek Recipes were characterized by simplicity of ingredients and cooking techniques. The ancient Greek cuisine is many times believed to be the precursor of the present day Mediterranean cuisine, for instance like the Mediterranean cuisine, many of the ancient Greek recipes centered upon wheat, olives, and wine. Bread made from wheat and barley formed the staple starch of ancient Greeks. They made both plain flat breads and leavened bread made using wine yeast. Bread was usually served with “relish,” which referred to any cooked recipe including an assortment of vegetables, lentils, beans, and fruits. Consumption of seafood, and meat recipes varied widely depending upon the social status and regional availability of farm animals. The Spartans primarily ate pork stew based recipes, while seafood was the staple on Greek islands. Apart from cooked recipes, the diet of an ancient Greek included a range of fresh fruits, veggies, and raw meat. Thus, ancient Greek recipes, in spite of the lack of technology, were as colorful as any contemporary cuisine.
